Spool.fm re-loaded

Hello everybody!

We are back with a new and polished user interface and the features you asked for. We also added some pretty cool stuff. Let me tell you about it.

With your feedback, the spirit of the site became clearer, and we understood what you asked for. You like music, you like living it, sharing it, and you want to know what your friends recently discovered. Well in Spool.fm, every user can be considered like a unique radio station, that you will be able to listen to in real time! As soon as you login, you will as usual see your playlists, but also your online friends. You will see in real time what they are listening to on Spool.fm, and simply clicking on them synchronizes you on them. Once you clicked on one of your friends, you are connected to their station, and will be listening to the same song, at the same time. Naturally, if you are listening to something intriguing or interesting, your friends might want to synchronize themselves with you  ;)

The search is now faster and more accurate. The tagging of the songs has been improved as well. You can adjust the width of the different columns, and sort the results according to the title of the song, the album, the artist, etc…

In this new version, there are many features that we will let you discover during time. For us, the challenge was to create an user interface that would be extremely easy to use for all possible actions. You always have a quick playlist at the left, even if you are not logged in. You can fill it on-the-fly with songs by drag and dropping items from a list of songs (for instance, from search results). You can also reorder lists using drag&drop, and you can delete songs from a list by droping them to the outside left. During dragging, an icon is shown depending on the location of your mouse. It indicates what Spool plans to do if you drop the item there. “+” means “add to playlist”, the trash can means “delete song”, etc.

When displaying an user profile, you can see his playlists and listen to them to discover his musical tastes. You can also suggest him songs by drag&drop: simply drag a song item from one of your playlists into one of his, and you’re done! He will be informed about your suggestion. You can even drag&drop a whole playlist if you want to suggest one.

If you want to share a song with a friend by an instant messaging service such as Windows Live or Gtalk, you can send him the URL displayed on the playbar. You can also show your love for songs by publishing them:

* publishing a twitter feed: just click on the “share” button on the playbar.

* publishing a flash widget which will play a song in your blog or website: Copy/paste the html code displayed on the playbar.

* publishing a whole playlist in a flash widget: Select “publish” item in the playlists contextual menu.

    A bientôt,
    Dean.
